Javier is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico...he moved to Louisiana to attend LSU and go to vet school, and he graduated from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He completed an internship in exotic animal medicine, and then completed a PhD in Veterinary Clinical Sciences in 2007. He teaches in the exotic animal clinic and wildlife hospital at the vet school, and also lectures on exotic animal medicine to the veterinary students.

When he is not at work, Javier usually spends time working in the yard on landscape, kayaking, or bicycling. Watching TV and movies with Emily is also up there on the priority list! He has worked very hard to get the nursery ready for Baby Nevarez with Emily's Dad, by painting and laying tile and putting furniture together!!!

Emily is from Zachary, Louisiana, where she and Javier now live! She graduated from both LSU and Southeastern Louisiana University and is a Registered Nurse. She currently works nights in the Emergency Room at the hospital near their home. Since half of her time is spent sleeping during the day and working at night, Em tries to get outside in the sunshine whenever possible and play with their 3 dogs. She also stays very busy cooking, especially learning new Korean recipes, and trying to learn Korean language. The latest hobby is gardening, and so far everything she has planted is alive. That is all we can hope for right now, and hopefully vegetables will eventually grow!

We will be married 5 years on January 1, the time flies!!  We met in 2003 while both working at the LSU Veterinary School...Javier was doing work in the clinics as a veterinarian, and Emily was working as an assistant-type person while going to school on the main campus. There was an instant attraction but a friendship developed first and love followed quickly after that! Our first date was sailing on Javier's boat on Lake Ponchartrain and having a picnic lunch, and the rest is history!

We took a trip in May of 2004 to Puerto Rico to meet Javier's family and friends, and he popped the question one evening on the beach..and of course Emily said yes!  We were married in a small, private ceremony the following New Year's Day and have lived happily ever after!

Right now we have 3 furry kids...Sophie, a Scottie/Lab cross and Eddie and Winston, both Boston Terriers. They are our hearts and we are working on helping them adjust to sharing the limelight with a baby! We just love hanging out at home and being together, and usually spend weekends shopping or going out to eat with family or friends. Thanks for visiting our website, and we hope that you enjoy keeping up with our adoption journey!
